Ian E Finch, walked The Timeless Way in August 2015.  He recorded his feelings in a four minute video, Upon a ribbon of wilderness.

Watch it here.  It is a complete knockout.  Here is the Link: https://vimeo.com/140579736

Ian E Finch is a traveller and explorer of renown who always describes his travels in clear and evocative terms. Visit his website  http://ianefinch.com/ You won’t be disappointed. He recently canoed length of Yukon River in Alaska to explore native cultures.  Ian quotes Francis Bacon Sr. who said, “Write down the thoughts of the moment. Those that come unsought for are commonly the most valuable.”

Of the Outer Hebrides Ian says:

The Outer Hebrides are Britain’s far flung north-west frontier, an archipelago stretching over 120 miles north to south, thirty to sixty miles off the coast of Scotland. Islands of myth and mystery, of mists and dazzling sunsets across sparkling blue seas, of gentle machair and rugged mountains, home of the Gaelic speaking crofting people.

Using ancient pathways and trade routes that span the numerous islands like a spiders web it was my aim to follow in the footsteps of those that walked and thrived on this rugged landscape 100’s of years ago. From remote community to township, crofting village to harbour this became a journey of self directed exploration.

As the film ends we see Ian writing some heart poignant works in a diary of his travels but then some more words come up on the screen.  The shot lingers long enough for the viewer to read the quote.  A second later Ian  attributes the quote . . .
